JAZZ on the Vine

Music and wine just seem to go together. That’s why, although I’m not a wine drinker, I love wine festivals.

In Northern Virginia, where I hang my hat, the Herndon Labor Day Jazz & Wine Festival is a must. Where else can you see such extraordinary musicians as gypsy jazz guitarist John Jorgensen for free — or at most a $5 cover.

But Labor Day is still several months and a couple of seasons away. On New York’s Long Island, where I used to hang my hat, wine and jazz are in full swing now at the 2010 Long Island Winterfest. From today through March 21, the Winterfest is offering six weekends of free jazz concerts. So, if you’re in the New York area, check out the lineup, pull on your scarf and jacket, and enjoy!
